Densified Polished Concrete is beautiful...
While resurfacing the concrete side walks to a commercial complex, one of the businesses owners in the development, who had a problem with their flooring and were looking for solutions. The business is core storage for oil exploration, consequently a heavy forklift is frequently required to carry heavy samples of cores to be inspected by geologists. The floor was a mixture of VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile), carpet and epoxy coated concrete, all of which were failing due to the wear from the forklift.
We recommended a polished concrete floor as a solution, quite apart from the aesthetic beauty of the floor, the characteristics of the floor provided a good solution for the function; due to the densifying process the "wear surface" surface of the concrete becomes two to three times harder than the original concrete (typically concrete will leave a strength of approximately 3,500 psi). So the forklift would not damage the floor, in addition there is nothing to delaminate over time.
